Duration
This course is scheduled to run Monday evening, 6:30pm to 9:30pm and Saturday mornings, 9:00am to 2:00pm for 8 weeks.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must be 16+ years of age on entry to the course.
Hold a QQI Level 3 Major award or equivalent.
Competent written and spoken English (CEFR B1 or Higher).
Non-EU/EEA applicants must have permission to work in Ireland.

The aim of this course is to enable the learner development the knowledge skills and competence to safely operate under supervision, a central lathe.
What will I study?
Learners will be able to:
Explain the various parts of the centre lathe and their operations.
Explain how the centre lathe is setup to produce production pieces.
Apply safe working practices while operating a centre lathe.
Interpret simple component drawings, including the following features: parallel and stepped diameters, drilled, reamed or bored holes, knurling (medium diamond) and chamfering.
Prepare a centre lathe to produce production pieces, including the tools and equipment needed to machine parallel and stepped diameters, drill, ream and bore holes, cut medium diamond knurls, part off and face
component.
Operate a centre lathe to produce production pieces to specification, including machining parallel and stepped diameters, drill, ream and bore holes, cut medium diamond knurls, part off and face component.
Maintain the centre lathe, tools and equipment as per manufacturer's recommendations.
