This course will equip you with elementary knowledge and basic practical skills in child development and play in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) settings

Duration
This course is scheduled to run 2 evenings a week, Monday and Wednesday, from 6:30pm to 9:30pm for 10 weeks.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must be 16+ years of age on entry to the course.
Competent written and spoken English (CEFR B1 or Higher).
Non-EU/EEA applicants must have permission to work in Ireland.
Applicants should have a standard of knowledge, skill and competence equivalent to NFQ Level 3 when accessing a Level 4 programme.
Mature applicants’ route with relevant life and work experience.
Additional
Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Applicants must be able to work under direction with some ability to work on their own initiative.

The aim of this course is to enable the learner to work under direct supervision, providing assistance and support within an Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) setting and or to progress to further education and training.
What will I study?
Explain the key stages of child development.
Explain the relationship between play and child development.
Identify some practical child observation techniques.
Identify the skills that children develop and use in different types of play activities.
Respond appropriately to children at play recognising the diverse needs of children and families.
Prepare a play item or activity which meets the basic developmental needs of a child.
Identify learning opportunities under guidance, to improve knowledge and skills at a personal and vocational level.
Take partial responsibility for own role and practice in supporting the basic developmental, play and learning needs of the child.
