Ceramics - The Potter's Wheel - Crawford College of Art & Design
This course introduces students to the experience of throwing as a means of creating ceramic forms and as a means of expression of ideas. Using earthenware students learn how to produce ceramic forms on the wheel and explore and gain skills in the areas of clay preparation, throwing, turning and firing.

Entry Requirements
This is an intermediate class. Prior experience with clay is required.
What is RPL?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is when formal recognition is given for what you already know prior to starting on a programme or module. With recognition of prior learning the focus is on learning and not on experience as such. You can apply for RPL in any MTU accredited programme or module. Programmes which are accredited by professional bodies or any external awarding bodies may have their own procedures for RPL which you should refer to.

What will I study?
Students gain a comprehensive understanding of the various stages of drying clay and learn how to monitor and control the drying process. Students work with the shapes in leather hard stage, add applications where appropriate and finish shapes.
Award
MTU: Single Module Certification, 5 ECTS credits at Level 7 on the National Framework of Qualifications.
Students have an opportunity to submit their work for assessment (80% attendance is required to be eligible for assessment) should they wish to gain the MTU: Single Module Certification for this course.
