Duration
2 years. 1 Day College Based and 4 Days Work Based.
Entry Requirements
• Leaving Certificate holders from 2017 or later: A minimum of 310 CAO points and at least an O5 in Ordinary Level English and either Mathematics or Accounting is required.
• Leaving Certificate holders prior to 2017: A minimum of 300 CAO points and at least a D3 in Ordinary Level English and either Mathematics or Accounting is required.
• You must be at least 18 years of age on or before 1st July in the year of entry.
• You may be eligible for subject exemptions for previously attained relevant qualifications at the discretion of the ATI.

Progression To Further Studies
Graduates from the Apprenticeship Programme can progress with exemptions to higher professional accounting qualifications including ACA, ACCA, CIMA, and CPA.

Classes will commence in mid-September 2024.
Course Registration takes place in late August.
You will be invited to the College to attend an induction session prior to class commencement.
How do I apply for the Apprenticeship Programme?
• Apply online at: www. accountingtechnicianapprenticeship.ie and nominate BFEI as your college-based Tuition Centre.
• ATI will assess your application and send it to employers if it meets the eligibility requirements.
• Employers from industry, practice and the public sector will review your application and may call you for interview.
• If successful, you will start a two-year contract with a company and will earn at least the minimum wage for the duration of the programme.
On this programme, you will work with a local business or accounting practice four days a week, and engage in intensive study at BFEI for one day a week. You will be trained ‘on-the-job’, in every aspect of the qualification, and will be closely mentored by a qualified Accounting Technician or Accountant. You will emerge from the programme after two years with a nationally and internationally recognised qualification, solid work experience and the opportunity to become a fully qualified Chartered Accountant within five years.
What skills will I have when I finish?
You will have gained the knowledge and skills to:
• Prepare financial statements.
• Prepare financial reports and other management information.
• Compute tax liabilities for companies and individuals.
• Set up and manage systems for budgets, stock control, cost accounting, and cash reconciliations.
• Set up and manage credit control procedures.
• Use industry standard software (SAGE) to produce payroll and accounts.

What qualifications will I get when I finish the course?
On successful completion of the two-year Apprenticeship Programme, you will be a fully qualified Accounting Technician having gained a Diploma for Accounting Technicians and a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Accounting Code 6M20617
How will I be assessed for this qualification?
Course assessment is based on a combination of work-based assessment documented throughout the programme and exams which are held in May each year.
