Entry Requirements

The entry requirement for undertaking the programme is an Honours Degree (H2.2) in any discipline.

Entry can be at any of the three stages, as follows:
1. Certificate in Teaching and Learning – Level 8 Honours Degree (H2.2) or equivalent.

2. Diploma in Teaching and Learning - Level 8 Honours Degree (H2.2) and the Certificate in Teaching and Learning or equivalent.

3. Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning - Level 8 Honours Degree (H2.2) and the Certificate in Teaching and Learning, and the Diploma in Teaching and Learning or equivalent.

Applicants must be lecturing in Higher Education, since a lecturing placement is integral to programme delivery.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Candidates with further qualifications at Level 9 in education or teaching practice may also employ ATU’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) processes and the RPL assessment e-Portfolio tool (www.myexperience.ie) to determine if they meet the standard.

Candidates can use RPL as a means of accessing the programme. They can also use RPL to gain exemptions. This is in accordance with Code of Practice No. 6 (Policy and Procedures for the Recognition of Prior Learning).

RPL can be either certified or experiential. This validity of this RPL will be in accordance with the Code of Practice No. 6.

Furthermore, the programme makes allowances for the entry of international students holding qualifications at the appropriate level.

ATU will assess individual applicants on a case-by-case basis, in line with its RPL policy.

Where required, the programme board will also engage with ATU’s International Office to map progression from partner colleges abroad.

Overview
Three postgraduate qualifications in Teaching & Learning designed for those working in higher education and further education, either in Ireland or overseas.

This suite of programmes has been designed for applicants who would like to gain a formal qualification in teaching and learning in Higher Education, and/or a qualification in Further Education.

In addition, it is for those who wish to develop and enrich their own teaching and learning practices in the context of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

The programmes are:
1. Certificate in Teaching and Learning (Minor Award, Level 9, 30 ECTS)

2. Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning (Level 9, 60 ECTS) + Minor Certificate Awards available for each stand alone Module undertaken in the Diploma

3. Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning (Level 9, 90 ECTS)
