Course Delivery
This programme will be delivered in a blended format, part-time from September 2026 to May 2027. The majority of content will be delivered online (provisionally classes will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7 pm to 9 pm; however, students will be required to attend a number of workshops (approximately six) on campus over the duration of the programme.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must hold a minimum NFQ Level 6 Higher Certificate in an engineering qualification, or equivalent. The University’s policy in relation to recognition of prior learning (RPL) also applies.
All programmes are delivered through English, therefore, a good knowledge of the language is essential. For all applicants applying for this programme who do NOT have English as their first language or who have NOT completed a major academic award equivalent to a minimum of level 4 on the Irish NFQ, that is delivered and assessed through the medium of English, are required to review the minimum criteria @ https://mtu.ie/international/non-eu/kerry-campus/
What is RPL?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is when formal recognition is given for what you already know prior to starting on a programme or module. With recognition of prior learning the focus is on learning and not on experience as such. You can apply for RPL in any MTU accredited programme or module. Programmes which are accredited by professional bodies or any external awarding bodies may have their own procedures for RPL which you should refer to.
Careers / Further progression
Progression
The primary progression pathway for the Level 7 Certificate in Mechatronics is to combine it with the Level 7 Certificate in Quality Management Tools and Techniques in Practice. Together, these provide 60 credits at Level 7, leading to the award of a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Mechatronics. Graduates can then advance to the Level 8 Certificate in Industry 4.0 and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), followed by the Level 8 Certificate in Integrated Manufacturing Engineering Management (IMEM), ultimately achieving a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Integrated Manufacturing Engineering.
