The BTEI provides part-time Further Education programmes for young people and adults. It aims to give participants an opportunity to combine a return to learning with family, work and other responsibilities. Programmes are offered in partnership with a number of agencies throughout the country on a flexible part-time basis. Classes are offered throughout the year in the morning, afternoons, evenings or weekends. Courses lead to a range of accreditation at levels 1-6 on the NFQ.

This programme aims to offer you:
• An initial assessment of your current English language level, so you can understand where your language skills are on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
• Structured English language tuition to improve your use of English grammar, vocabulary and spelling and to increase your confidence and fluency in using English for speaking, listening, reading and writing.
• Opportunities to use or practise English in your everyday life.
• Opportunities to be more confident by using English in new situations.
• The chance to get ready to start working towards a qualification to progress your English language skills.
• Language teaching that is interesting and encourages you to think about and discuss ideas and opinions by using your experiences and English language needs as the context for learning.

At the end of this course, you will be able to:
• Speak, read and write in English and be able to listen to spoken English, as needed for everyday life, including work or social settings.

• Recognise where you have made progress with English language skills.
• Identify what areas in English language skills may need more development.
• Identify your own individual progression needs and opportunities, including how to prepare for progression/certification on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) or European Qualifications Framework (EQF).
