The BTEI provides part-time Further Education programmes for young people and adults. It aims to give participants an opportunity to combine a return to learning with family, work and other responsibilities. Programmes are offered in partnership with a number of agencies throughout the country on a flexible part-time basis. Classes are offered throughout the year in the morning, afternoons, evenings or weekends. Courses lead to a range of accreditation at levels 1-6 on the NFQ.

Aptitude: Good verbal and written command of the English language along with good communication skills are essential. All learners wishing to complete elective modules in the areas of sports coaching must receive clearance through the Garda vetting process.
Previous Experience: Alternatively, applicants may have achieved the equivalent standard of knowledge, skill and competence through relevant work experience.

This course is designed for those who have a keen interest in Sport and Leisure and who would like to gain a qualification with the view of employment in the adventure sector of the tourism and leisure industry or further their training in this area. It contains a large practical outdoor element.

Learners will be able to:
1. Select and participate in appropriate physical activities to achieve a basic level of fitness and describe how lifestyle habits, with specific reference to physical activity, can affect quality of life and the physiological changes the body undergoes due to participation in different types of exercise.
2. Communicate effectively both verbally and non-verbally including the use of visual aids in routine every day tasks and in the work environment and explain the impact of information technologies on communications in a range of contexts.
3. Demonstrate a specified range of knowledge, skills and competence, determined by the elective module choices made by learners, from a range that includes personal and interpersonal development, teamworking, personal effectiveness, customer service, workplace safety and information technology skills as required for fulfilment of the overall major award requirements.
4. Participate in the workplace for a limited time and carry out work-related tasks while under supervision; display an ability to interact positively and effectively both in a workplace environment and/or in a managed learning environment.
5. Display a Tennis playing ability including the basic tactical patterns in the five playing situations and using a basic skill development model of lessons based on the Tennis Ireland Play and Stay Programme; assist with the delivery of classes under the supervision of a Tennis Ireland qualified Coach.
6. Describe the constituents of a balanced diet, the importance of diet in maintaining health and wellbeing and make informed decisions about food and diet in relation to energy requirements of individuals.
7. Describe the structure of the body; the function and operation of human biological systems and the importance of all systems working efficiently to ensure good health and well being
