The BTEI provides part-time Further Education programmes for young people and adults. It aims to give participants an opportunity to combine a return to learning with family, work and other responsibilities. Programmes are offered in partnership with a number of agencies throughout the country on a flexible part-time basis. Classes are offered throughout the year in the morning, afternoons, evenings or weekends. Courses lead to a range of accreditation at levels 1-6 on the NFQ.

| Entry Requirements |
Leaving Certificate / Leaving Certificate Applied or QQI/ FETAC Level 4. Mature students with relevant life or work experience. All candidates will be interviewed individually. Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to take an assessment in English to establish the most suitable level of study for them.
Work Experience:
Work Experience is a compulsory part of this course. Garda Vetting is required and will be organised through the college. |

This is a preparation course for those who wish to pursue a career in nursing. It also equips learners with the necessary knowledge and skills to work in the Health Care Support Area.
Course Content:
Mandatory components:
•Anatomy and Physiology (5N0749)
•Human Growth and Development (5N1279)
•Nursing Theory and Practice (5N4325)
•Care Skills (5N2770)
•Communications (5N0690)
•Work Experience (5N1356)
Elective components:
Two components from the following list will be selected by the college subject to availability
•Safety & Health at Work (5N1794)
•Care Support (5N0758)
•Infection Prevention & Control (5N3734)
•Social Studies (5N1370)
•Child Health and Wellbeing (5N1765)
•Word Processing (5N1358)
Learners will also complete Patient Moving & Handling and First Aid (CPR) Training.
Course duration:
Part-time: 2 years (2 half days per week, 4 components each year)*
*We aim for all classes to take place between the hours of 9.10 am and 2.10 each day. Applicants must be aware that sometimes it is necessary to schedule classes outside of these times.
Certification:
QQI Level 5 Major Award in Nursing Studies. Certificate in Patient Handling. Certificate in First Aid.
Prospects:
Students who successfully complete the Nursing Studies course may progress to a Nursing Degree course at Third Level through the Higher Education Links Scheme or gain employment in the Health Care sector.
Learners who have successfully completed this course have progressed to study Nursing in Trinity College, DCU, UCD and in the UK. Students have also progressed to other Third level colleges including NUI Maynooth, IT T and IT B to study for degrees in Social studies and Social Care areas. Other successful learners have gained part-time and fulltime positions as Health Care Assistants in a variety of services.
