Hide-This one year, full-time course offers learners an exciting opportunity to design and make their own furniture. The practical nature of the course enables students to learn the essential skills and techniques in furniture making and design. This course provides students with many progression routes.
This one year course is centred around the practical nature of woodworking and students will learn techniques in both hand skills and machinery use. The course will have a strong emphasis on process and design which will enable students to generate design ideas and to produce finished pieces of furniture.
Classes in metalcraft and finishing techniques will give students opportunities to develop a unique range of skills.
Students will complete work experience as an integral part of the course. The students will work with a realistic design brief to create functioning furniture for public use. Guidance will be provided to students throughout the course to assist them to achieve their full potential.

Hide-Course fees range from €300 to €400 depending on the course. The fees cover costs of examination entry and certification fees as well as any course materials and personal equipment to students. The fees also cover a range of other services and activities provided for, or engaged in, by the students such as some trips, cultural and sporting events, accident insurance policy fee and student services fund fee. in addition to this, the Government levy of €200 will also apply for those applicants who do not hold a medical care.
Enrolment Deposit
Students who accept the offer of a place on a course must pay a non-refundable deposit of €50. The balance of the fee must be paid on commencement of each academic year.
External Examination Fees
Students who choose to enter for examinations other than those set by QQI and/or BTEC must pay the appropriate exam fees to the relevant examining authority.

The Department of Education and Science has introduced a maintenance grant scheme for Further Education students. Application forms are available online at www.susi.ie.

1st Round In March/April, 2nd in Mid-May, Late applicants will be interviewed when the Leaving Certificate Examinations are finished or in early September. |

Applications are welcome from 1st December of the year preceding the course start year.
Interviews are then held at regular intervals from the following March onwards. First round of interviews will take place during March/April. Second round interviews will take place in mid-May. Late applications will be interviewed when the Leaving Certificate Examinations are finished or in early September.

Students who have reached Leaving Certificate or Leaving Certificate Applied standard are invited to apply. Mature students without formal qualification but who have relevant experience may also apply.
Additional Requirements
Admittance to the course will depend on satisfying an interview board of the candidate’s suitability. Students will be required to provide samples of their work such as drawings or made objects. |
