In general, there are no closing dates for the majority of courses (those with closing dates will be highlighted in the Course Finder). However we advise you to apply as early as possible, particularly for those courses where there is a high demand for places. Early application is also important for international applicants to allow sufficient time to obtain a student entry visa.

Postgraduate Research

There is no standard closing date. You should however check both the University’s website and refer to the relevant School/Institute webpage for information on deadline dates for postgraduate funding applications, as these will also determine when your application for admission should be submitted.

Those with a 2.2 Honours degree or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the University may also apply if they have also achieved a postgraduate qualification (eg Diploma/Masters) relevant to Clinical Psychology.

As the programme typically has in excess of 200 applicants per year who meet these essential criteria, application forms are shortlisted on the basis of desirable criteria. These are outlined in selection information but include evidence of four competencies: psychological knowledge and thinking; research skills; personal and professional development; and interpersonal skills.

Typically 48 applicants are shortlisted for interview. As successful applicants will be salaried during their time of study by the Department of Health and Social Services, European Union (EU) employment restrictions apply.

Normally salaried places cannot be offered to non-EU nationals. Applications from non-EU applicants who are able to self-fund, or who have other sources of funding, will be considered.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
International students (for whom English is not their first language), must be able to demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to benefit fully from their studies. Non-EEA nationals must also satisfy UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) immigration requirements for English language for visa purposes. Evidence of an IELTS* score of 7.0, with not less than 6.5 in any component, or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the University is required. (*Taken within the last 2 years). Why Queen's?
Graduates are eligible for Chartered Psychologist with Clinical Status accreditation. On successful completion of the programme, student may apply to the health Care Professions Council for statutory registration which is required to practise as a Clinical psychologist in the UK.

In addition, students must also complete a 15,000-20,000 word dissertation on an approved topic.

All modules are compulsory.

Teaching and placement time occurs outside the normal semester schedule of the University. As employees of the DHSS, students are seconded full time to the professional doctorate.

Trainees are entitled to 27 annual leave days per year in addition to 10 statutory leave days. In addition, study and research leave is scheduled throughout the programme.
