A Second Class Honours Grade One (2:1) or higher is required but Second Class Honours Grade Two (2:2) standard or equivalent may be considered. Applicants with a Joint Honours primary degree should normally have attained a standard of at least Second Class Honours Grade Two (2:2) in their final degree. Applicants who do not meet the academic requirements but can confirm professional qualifications and/or experience will be considered. Applicants may be called for an interview.

All candidates are expected to be proficient in written and spoken English. Applicants whose primary language is not English must submit evidence of a certificate of proficiency (such as TOEFL, Cambridge or IELTS). Test results must be less than two years old.

The MSocSc Global Migration and Cultural Differences programme has been specifically designed to provide advanced interdisciplinary training in ways of understanding, analysing and responding to the challenges and potential contributions of human movements and mobilities. It highlights important ways in which these challenges further shape and are shaped by the politics of difference that underpin contemporary societies. The programme specializes in the cutting-edge issues concerning racism, migration, identity, human rights, ethnicity, multiculturalism and ethnoracial politics.

It develops the theoretical and research skills necessary to effectively analyse some of the most pressing global issues in migration and cultual differences.

The programme enhances student's ability to think critically, analytically and creatively, and present ideas efficiently through written reports and oral presentations.

The MSocSc Global Migration & Cultural Differences Programme is suitable for graduates with a primary degree in Sociology or Social Science or a closely related discipline, such as psychology, philosophy, human geography, history, politics, and economics who wish to develop a grounding and analysis of issues concerning global migration and cultural differences.

This Programme is valuable for those seeking advanced training and postgraduate qualification for academic, policy or civic purposes.

Students will have the opportunity to develop a critical and comparative understanding of topics such as: global migration patterns; diaspora and emigration histories; identity politics and civic mobilisation; racism, nationalism and xenophobia; integration and diversity; human rights policies; intercultural relations; and creative cultural agency.

This programme will help students develop a sound, up-to-date, inter-disciplinary understanding of the theories, substantive issues and debates, and methodologies for researching global migration and cultural differences.
