Applications for admission to full-time undergraduate courses at Queen’s should normally be made through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). Full information can be obtained from the UCAS website at: www.ucas.com/apply.

When to Apply

UCAS will start processing applications for entry in Autumn 2017 from 1 September 2016.

The normal closing date for the receipt of applications is 15 January 2017.

Applicants are advised to apply as early as is consistent with having made a careful and considered choice of institutions and courses.

Earlier applicants normally receive decisions more quickly, however, UCAS accepts that some applicants, especially those from outside the UK, may find this difficult. Late applications are, in practice, accepted by UCAS throughout the remainder of the application cycle, but you should understand that they are considered by institutions at their discretion, and there can be no guarantee that they will be given the same full level of consideration as applications received by the advisory closing date.

Take care to enter the details of the institutions and courses clearly and correctly on the application. For Queen's, the institution code name is QBELF and the institution code is Q75. These should be entered in the Choices section of your UCAS application. A Campus Code is not required.

INTO at Queen's is based on the University campus and offers a range of courses including the International Foundation in Business, Humanities and Social Science.

Television and radio are no longer just boxes in the corner of the room, but rather dynamic forms that operate across media platforms in an industry that is currently seeing unprecedented growth. As a consequence, digital and media literacy has never been more important to society.

The BA Broadcast Production is a pioneering programme, which will prepare students for contemporary content and programme making in television, radio, journalism, and other new and emerging digital media platforms, as well as developing their understanding of the broadcasting landscape.

Why Queen's?

The programme uses state-of-the-art digital production facilities; students will have access to a television studio with full broadcast-quality LED lighting using electrically-controlled hoists and green screen; we have both off-line and on-line editing suites, utilising software such as Avid Media Composer, DaVinchi Resolve, Nuke for VFX Compositing and Pro Tools. Full high-definition cameras are available, as are substantial lighting and grip kits for location work. Additionally, we are an Authorised Avid Learning Partner for Pro Tools and Media Composer, offering certified industry-approved training integrated into the degree.

Significant work placements will be available on this programme. A number of television production companies and community based radio stations have already indicated their willingness to be involved and support for the introduction of this degree. In addition, discussions are ongoing with Northern Ireland Screen and the BBC about what role they might have in future placements.

This course offers a combination of practical, theoretical, academic and critical elements, ensuring students have a thorough understanding of the issues surrounding broadcast production. It is an intensely practical course, teaching students how to understand and create stories for broadcast. Students will produce their own programmes, both in the studio and on location. The course will have its own online broadcast channel, allowing students to publish their work for everyone, including potential employers, to appreciate.
