Applicants wishing to enrol on this programme will need to secure work placement from a suitable employer. Applicants must achieve a pass in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent examinations, obtaining a minimum grade O6/H7 in English or Gaeilge, O6/H7 in Mathematics and O6/H7 in three other subjects. |

Hide-The Institute welcomes applications from persons who will be 23 years of age and over on the 1st of January of the proposed year of entry and who wish to be admitted as a mature student. The Institute reserves a minimum of 5% of all places for mature applicants. Mature applicants should apply to the CAO before 1st February. Each mature applicant is considered on an individual basis by the Institute, usually by an aptitude test or written assessment and/or interview. These are normally held in May each year.

Hide-The aim of this programme is to produce a technician with a fundamental knowledge of the essential engineering skills associated with agricultural machinery. This knowledge, combined with extensive work based practical learning, will equip the learner with the skills demanded of a technician by the farm machinery industry.
The graduate will have knowledge and understanding of:
• The function, operating principles, service procedures and fault diagnosis of tractors and farm
machinery, electrical and electronic systems as applied to agricultural machinery;
• Precision farming systems, workshop techniques including health and safety;
• The creation and maintenance of digital records;
• Pre-delivery inspection for agricultural machinery;
• Effective engagement with customers.
Why Study Agricultural Mechanisation At It Tralee?
Our world-class facilities include agricultural engineering workshops, machinery halls, computer and electronics laboratories, a mechanical engineering laboratory, a machine and welding shop and a power units garage.
Students will undertake three periods of work-placement over the duration of the programme. These placements will be of a minimum duration of twelve weeks each. During each placement the student will be required to undertake a minimum number of practical assignments from a prescribed list. This will be undertaken under the direct supervision of the work placement supervisor.
