The NIBRT is a global centre of excellence for training and research in bioprocessing. The MSc and PGDip will provide the theoretical background, the practical training and the workplace skills to give graduates the tools for a successful career in the biopharmaceutical and biotechnology industry.

In the first semester, students study bioprocessing manufacturing theory, bioanalytical techniques, research methods, biocontamination monitoring and control, legislation and regulatory affairs/quality systems.
In the second semester, the following modules are covered: bioprocessing manufacturing laboratories, bioanalytical laboratories, operations management/lean sigma, validation and formulation and delivery of biopharmaceuticals. The programme offers a combination of full-time and on-line theory modules plus laboratory modules delivered in IT Sligo and NIBRT. The full suite of modules (60 credits) and the research dissertation (30 credits) leading to the MSc degree, normally takes one full year to complete.
Participants may also take the full suite of modules minus the research dissertation and will be eligible to be awarded a Level 9 Postgraduate Diploma (60 credits). The research dissertation will commence in Semester 2 of the programme.
