Hide-The University of Limerick (UL) is offering the Certificate in Equine Science (QQI level 6) as a part-time programme. It provides the opportunity for people who are interested in horses and the horse industry to gain a deeper insight into the physiology of the horse, develop their equitation skills and to explore the business side of the Irish horse industry.
It is suitable for all with an interest in horses, from the amature enthusiast to the industry professional, regardless of their work commitments, personal circumstace, geographical location in Ireland or prior learning.
The Certificate in Equine Science is delivered by blended learning, which is part distance learning, part face-to-face. There are face-to-face sessions for the equitation skills, physiology and lab elements for the subjects allowing you to practice your skills and meet your fellow classmates.
The certificate contains 15 subjects, offered over 2.5 to 3 years.
Students are expected to attend enrolment and induction sessions at the University of Limerick at the start of each semester, where they will collect their study packs and obtain useful information and guidance to assist with their studies.
Students will be expected to attend laboratories at UL in addition to the first tutorial for each module studied. Attendance at Practical Equitation (Horsemanship) modules is compulsory.
During the semester, students will be advised of conferences, lectures, workshops and field study visits.
