Teaching: Distance learning and workshops. The ten units will be delivered as a distance learning module on Blackboard. There will also be two workshop days covering practical skills in diabetes management.
Induction: 6th September, 2017.
Online Distance Learning: Starts 16th September, 2017.
Workshops: 9am-5pm on Both Saturdays.

Applicants must provide evidence of current registration with the relevant professional regulatory body (for example, the Irish Medical Council, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (active registration) and the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland). Applicants not registered with one of the above professional bodies must provide evidence of a level 8 qualification in a relevant health care discipline.
Candidates whose first language is not English must have a minimum of IELTS 6.5 with scores in no individual sections less than 6.0.
All applicants are required to complete an application form and provide evidence of either current professional registration or primary degree.

Identify and categorise patients with problems with glycaemic control including diabetes, impaired glucose tolerance, impaired fasting glucose and gestational diabetes,
Devise and implement appropriate management plans for patients with diabetes and related conditions including prescription of appropriate pharmacotherapy for glycaemic control and risk factor management,
Detect potential and actual complications of diabetes,
Devise and implement appropriate plans for the reduction of risks of complications and the management of any complications that do occur,
Facilitate patients in diabetes self-management and life-style modification,
Quality assure their diabetes care by the construction of a practice diabetes register and the conduct of audit and evaluation.

1.Diagnosis of diabetes
2.Control & monitoring; self-management education
3.Structured diabetes care
4.Lifestyle modification
5.Glucose Lowering Agents
6.Insulin
7.Acute emergencies
8.Preventing cardiovascular disease
9.Preventing diabetic eye, kidney and foot disease (3 weeks)
10.Diabetes and pregnancy.
There will be a 1 hour Blackboard* training session in advance of course start date. 13hrs of workshops are delivered (dates to be confirmed) plus allow 4-6 hrs per week x 12 weeks distance learning – reading courses material and participating in online discussion board.

Course work is submitted 8-10 weeks after the final online unit has been completed
