2 Enrolment at LCFE Mulgrave Street Enrolment for Adult Education Evening Programmes for January 2017 will take place at the College as follows:

Enrolment - September 2017 Mon 21st August - Wed 20th September 10am - 3pm
Tuesday 29th August 5pm - 7pm
Wednesday 6th September 5pm – 8.30pm
Tuesday 12th September 5pm - 7pm

3. Enrolment at LCFE Cappamo re Enrolment for Adult Education Day and Evening Programmes for September 2017 will take place at the College as follows:

Enrolment - September 2017
Mon 21st August – Wed 20th September 9.30am - 1.30pm
Tuesday 12th September 5pm - 7pm

NOTE: For convenience it is possible to register for all of our programmes that are available at both campi at either Mulgrave Street or Cappamore.

January Enrolment
All programmes up to 14 weeks in duration will also run in January 2018. Enrolment for Adult Evening Programmes for January 2018 will take place at the College as follows:

Enrolment – January 2018:
Wed 3rd - Thursday 18th January, 10am - 3pm
Wed 10th January, 5pm - 7pm

Existing Programmes will recommence on Monday 8th January 2018 and new programmes will commence on Monday 22nd January 2018.

Refund Policy
Programme Cancellation For a programme to commence it is necessary to enrol a minimum number of participants. If this number is not reached the programme will be cancelled. Participants will be notified and a full fee refund will be processed. Any fees paid by cash are refunded by cheque and will require some time to process.

Viable Programmes
All other programmes must remain viable and be self-financing; therefore, NO REFUND S, under any circumstances, are available once a programme commences. We regret we cannot entertain any other requests for refunds. Once a programme commences participants cannot defer their place on that programme to another term. It is the responsibility of the participants to inform themselves of the programme commencement date, content, programme duration, etc.

Certificates of Attendance
Certificates of Attendance are posted to respective learners within two months of programme completion. Certificates of Attendance are only issued where a learner has 70% attendance on the programme.

Assignment/ Project Submission
Coursework will not be returned to learners once submitted for assessment. Learners are therefore advised to retain a hard copy of all coursework submitted. This is necessary both for the learner’s own future reference and in the event of the tutor requesting a copy of the coursework, for whatever reason.

Electronic back-up copies should also be retained. All hard copy materials will be disposed of by 30th September of every academic year.

This programme, supported by Sporting Limerick, is suitable for those interested in gaining skills for the area of sports online and radio journalism. The programme is also designed to provide a basic introduction to all aspects of radio broadcasting and to develop practical and personal skills required for the Radio Industry – in particular sports radio broadcasting. The key aspect of the programme for participants is understanding what employers want and how best to prepare yourself for working in the radio industry. Learners will acquire skills to produce their own radio programmes in the college’s new state of the art digital studio facility. The programme should also appeal to anyone working within a sporting club or organisation who wishes to improve the standard of content produced on the website and social media platforms. This would apply to PRO ’s of sports clubs around Limerick and the mid-west.

• Intro to Sports Journalism – the Sports Department, Journalists and the Editor.

• Researching, writing, recording and posting Sports Related broadcasts online and understanding the roles and responsibilities of all of participants and presenting content in a structured manner.

• Radio Production and editing.

• Understanding the studio environment and the differences between doorstep interviews at events and structured studio and press conference interviews.

• Understanding the difference between short-term sports news items and longer-term sports feature and documentary pieces.

• Understanding what a day in the life of a Sports department looks like from a planning and editorial perspective.

• Introduction to social media platforms and engagement with Sporting Limerick website content management system.

• Online Sport – Sport websites, role of blogs, stills, and graphics, audio and recording for web.

• Journalism Ethics and Sport.

Programme Schedule

• Weeks 1-4: Course theory and understanding of recording techniques and skills.

• Weeks 5-9: Each week learners will produce a short sports news piece. The piece will have to be current as there will be a short turnaround time and tight deadline.

• Weeks 10-12: Longer radio piece of between 12 and 15 minutes. It will be a feature type piece and will incorporate interviews from different contributors as well as display an overall knowledge of what is required from feature pieces.

• End of Term: Written exam

Additional Information
Once learners work is up to broadcast standard, it will be published on the Sporting Limerick website and across all its social media outlets. Not only will students gain from experience and learning on the course, but they will also have a body of broadcast quality published work at the end of the twelve weeks.
