The BTEI provides part-time Further Education programmes for young people and adults. It aims to give participants an opportunity to combine a return to learning with family, work and other responsibilities. Programmes are offered in partnership with a number of agencies throughout the country on a flexible part-time basis. Classes are offered throughout the year in the morning, afternoons, evenings or weekends. Courses lead to a range of accreditation at levels 1-6 on the NFQ.

Healthcare Support Level 5 is designed to allow learners to gain a professional qualification to work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, day and residential care, community and the home. The role of the healthcare assistant is one who is able to support the existing staff in a hospital /nursing home or home care environment.
This course will run in the evening time over two years.
The following components are scheduled to run from September 2017 to June 2018: Infection Prevention and Control; Safety & Health at Work; Occupational First Aid; Palliative Care, Care of the Older Person.
Please note each of the above components has a credit value of 15 (with the exception of Occupational First Aid which has a credit value of 5) and in order to achieve a major award in “Healthcare Support” you need to have 120 credits.
The remaining components will run from September 2018 to June 2019 (Year 2). In Year 2, 150 hours work experience must also be achieved and certified by a Supervisor within work placement.

FREE to those who are on Social Welfare/Medical Card provided their highest level of education is less than Upper Second Level Education (those who did not complete Leaving Certificate) or that they completed Leaving Certificate 15 years ago or more (& do not have a higher level qualification)
