The BTEI provides part-time Further Education programmes for young people and adults. It aims to give participants an opportunity to combine a return to learning with family, work and other responsibilities. Programmes are offered in partnership with a number of agencies throughout the country on a flexible part-time basis. Classes are offered throughout the year in the morning, afternoons, evenings or weekends. Courses lead to a range of accreditation at levels 1-6 on the NFQ.

Hide-Education: No formal education or qualifications are required although applicants may have participated in primary and secondary education. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a standard of knowledge, skill and competence equivalent to NFQ Level 3 when accessing a Level 4 programme.
Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course and be able to work under direction with some ability to work on their own initiative.

The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill, and competence to work under direction in a professional kitchen and to facilitate the learner to explore new vocational areas within the Culinary Skills area with a view to up-skilling, developing new skills and exploring concepts and subjects that may interest the learner in future programmes or employment.
This course runs in the daytime (9.30 am - 4.00 pm) over two years.
The following mandatory components are scheduled to run from September 2017 to May 2018: Menu Planning (10 credits); Catering Operations and Systems (5 credits) ; Culinary Techniques (20 credits); Pastry, Baking & Desserts (10 credits). In order to achieve a major award in "Culinary Skills" you need to achieve a minimum of 90 credits. The remaining components will be run from September 2018 to May 2019.

QQI accredited - the option to complete the Major Award in Culinary Skills will be available as this course will run over 2 years. Year 1 includes 4 components and Year 2 will include remaining 4 to achieve the Major Award

FREE to those who are on Social Welfare/Medical Card provided their highest level of education is less than Upper Second Level Education (those who did not complete Leaving Certificate) or that they completed Leaving Certificate 15 years ago or more (& do not have a higher level qualification
