This QQI Level 5 Web Design online course will introduce students to the core competencies required to effectively use HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) standards for the purpose of building, testing and maintaining websites. The course will discuss concepts relating to the principles of web design in addition to introducing a variety of web development tools, including web editors and content management systems.

•People working in a marketing role, in a company, or in an agency, who wishes to acquire web design and web management skills.

Learners who successfully complete this course will:
•understand one of the scripting languages that are used on the World Wide Web
•design, construct and maintain interactive Web pages and Web sites

This course is assessed through completion of a combination of an Assignement and a Project. All work submitted must be your own work. There is no exam with this course. As part of our quality assurance, student assessment work will be marked by a Tutor, then checked by an Internal Verifier and an independent FETAC External Authenticator.
Assignment: – 30% of Marks
The candidate will be required to select a website that is publically accessible and to conduct a written review of that website covering the following topics:
•What is the purpose of the website
•Provide details of the product or service the website is promoting
•Identify the target audience
•Provide a site map of the website navigation structure
•Describe the website features
•Critique the website design
•Suggest Improvements.
Project: – 70% of Marks
The candidate is required to build a fully functional website, which has been developed to conform to HTML and CSS standards. The candidate will be required to follow clear instructions which detail the requirements for the website including:
•Folder Structure
•Naming convention for HTML and CSS files
•WebSite Navigation Structure
•Content Layout
•Use of Images
•Font Styles and Colour Scheme.
