What is ESOL?
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) is the provision of English language courses to learn-ers whose first language is not English.
All ESOL courses provided by Cavan and Monaghan ETB (CMETB) ESOL Services aim to develop the learners core language skills in the areas of:
Listening
Speaking
Reading
Writing
Grammatical accuracy
How can I apply for ESOL courses?
Registration takes place on a monthly basis at a number of venues across counties Cavan and Monaghan.
At registration potential learners are required to complete a short application form with basis personal details before undertaking a short assessment which assesses their existing level of English.
How much does it cost?
From September 2015 the following charges will apply to all CMETB ESOL courses :
ESOL Beginners: €10 6 weeks duration (2 x 3 hour classes per week
ESOL Elementary: €15 7 weeks duration (2 x 3 hour classes per week)
ESOL QQI Level 3: €20 8 weeks duration (2 x 3 hour classes per week)
'ESOL for Work' (ESOL QQI Level 4/ Career Preparation) : €30 13 weeks duration (2 x 3 hour classes per week
What will I learn?
The content of courses will depend on the level, but the main focus of all our ESOL programmes is to pro-vide learners with the language skills required to be active citizens in a wide range of everyday social and work related situations.

Introducing yourself
Talking about hobbies/interests
Shopping
Directions
Eating out
Visiting the doctor
Banking
CVs/Letters of application
Job interviews
Irish society and culture
Grammar
