Civil Engineers play a vital role in the planning, design and construction of the infrastructure which is fundamental to the economic wellbeing of a region or country. Civil Engineers therefore have very wide career opportunities and are ...

Subjects Taught Units of study include: Civil Engineering Construction, Science and Materials, Engineering Surveying, Mathematics, Structures, ICT and Geology and Soil Mechanics.
Assessment Method Assessment is by a combination of assignments and examinations. The assignments are often based on case studies or practical exercises and are designed to encourage students to explore the wider application of core engineering principles.
Work Placement Students will undertake a period of relevant industrial work placement which will assist in developing a sound understanding of the practical applications of some of the theoretical content, this forms a significant portion of the assessment and will be completed in the first semester of year two.
Careers or Further Progression Opportunities and Progression
Successful students can progress to year two of an undergraduate engineering programme. After a further two years of study, students can graduate with an honours degree from Ulster University or QUB. Students can also apply for other design/engineering related degree courses at different institutions. Alternatively they may choose to seek full-time employment in the construction or civil engineering industry.
