It is recommended that you have 4 GCSE’s including Mathematics and English ** and at least one of the following:
•BTEC Level 3 qualification or equivalent
•1 GCE A level pass Grade A-D (60 UCAS Tariff Points)
•NVQ Level 3 in any construction related trade
•Access to Higher Education Certificate awarded by an approved Further Education Institute
OR
•Provide evidence of ability to undertake the course through the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL). APEL is a process by which you may be awarded credits for learning that you have gained in the past, and which is relevant to the course to which you have applied. It may also help you gain entry to a programme if you do not have the required entry qualifications. This may be certificated or experiential learning.
Industrial experience and mature students may also be considered subject to interview.
**If you do not have English and/or Maths GCSE Grade C or above, you will be expected to achieve this or equivalent (Essential Skills Level 2) during your studies.

This course is studied over a minimum of two years with a combination of classroom teaching and practical assessments.
There is a strong focus on developing ILT skills within a continuous learning environment with subject support offered through our Virtual Learning Environment - Moodle. The course will enable you to develop skills and knowledge in the area of incorporating Architectural Design, Renewable Energies, Building Surveying and Services.
There are good opportunities to develop IT and CAD skills using the latest industry standard software including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Autodesk AutoCAD Architecture and Google SketchUp Pro.
The mode of attendance can be discussed with the course coordinator pending the number of units you wish to study.

There may be slight differentiation of module delivery on each campus depending upon local need. Classes may have to run in different campuses depending on demand, classes can only be run with viable numbers of enrolments.

Assessment strategies include continuous assessment through assignments, practical work and presentations. All assessment is continuous and case studies, presentations and group work are used frequently. Practical work forms a major part of the Site Surveying Procedures and Conversion and Adaptation Units.
At the end of each year, presentations are used so that work from individual units can be presented and assessed for the industry related projects.

This course can lead directly into a career as an Architectural Technician, Surveying Assistant or Site Manager.
Alternatively, further study at a higher level may lead to jobs such as an Architect, Architectural Technologist, Building Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor, Site Engineer, Building Control Officer, Sustainable/Renewables Specialist, Project Manager or management positions in the Construction Industry.
How Will The Course Make Me More Employable?
This programme will provide you with the skills to enable you to meet changing circumstances, whether these arise from a shift in your own sphere of employment, promotion to supervisory or management roles or from general changes in construction practices and the information technology environment. You will also gain experience using up-to-date, industrially relevant, CAD software and survey equipment.
Industry related projects will help develop skills like teamwork, planning, problem solving and communication, all of which you will need in the work place. HNC courses are well recognised by employers and they will see that you have the technical skills and knowledge to perform related roles within their business.
