Hide-The English Department in Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick, has offered a highly-successful and popular one-year taught M.A. degree programme in Modern English Literature since September 2002. This programme is designed for full-time students and we normally accept ten students each year. The cap on numbers ensures close personal tuition. Part-time students may also be admitted but in their case completion of the programme will take two years.
Aims of the Programme
• To widen and deepen student's knowledge and appreciation of English literature and contemporary critical theory
• To familiarise students with traditional and modern technological sources for research in English literature
• To equip students with the knowledge and skills required for doctoral studies
• To enhance students' career opportunities

Structure of Taught MA in Language and Literature
All students are required to take six modules and submit a thesis.
Full-time students take three modules in each semester of a single academic year and must submit their thesis at the latest by July 17 of the academic year in which they took the six modules. Part-time students may not take more than two modules in any one semester. They must complete the required six modules in two academic years and submit a thesis at the latest by July 17 of the second academic year of registration.
Modules will be delivered on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the academic year from 4.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. in Mary Immaculate College.
Students must select a thesis topic as early as possible during Semester 2. The process of topic selection etc. must be completed by full- time students at the latest by the end of Week 2 in Semester 2. (Part-time students must have completed the process of topic selection etc. by the end of Week 2 in Semester 4)

| Assessment Method |
50% of the student's cumulative Q.C.A. will be awarded for research essays in each one of the six taught modules of the programme (18 credits).
50% of the student's cumulative Q.C.A. will be awarded for the research thesis (18 credits). This thesis will be due at the end of July.
