What is Accounting and Finance?
Accounting and finance are an integral part of any organisation. Accountants provide essential information and professional advice to help individuals and organisations make the right financial and business decisions.
What is this programme about?
The programme will equip students with a high level of competence in accountancy, information technology and management skills, qualifying graduates to make an immediate contribution to the business community.
In Year 3, students who opt for Accounting study specialist subjects in more detail. Additional specialist choices can be made from the elective list depending on student’s area of interest.
This programme is recognised for subject exemptions from the Professional accounting bodies:
The Institute of Certified Public Accountants; (CPA) Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (ICA); The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Accountants play a pivotal role in most organisations and the Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Accounting and Finance Degree opens many diverse, challenging and rewarding career opportunities. Many graduates find employment in the financial services sectors working in banking, insurance, financial analysis and fund management and many other areas. A period of further study will allow the graduate to qualify as a professional accountant. There are many career opportunities available in sectors such as: consultancy; taxation; financial markets; banking and insurance; education and the public sector.
What follow-on study opportunities are available?
Graduates are eligible to progress to a Research or Taught Master’s Degree at IT Carlow and other institutions. Graduates may also take professional accountancy exams to further their qualifications.
