Hide-This workshop is suitable for psychologists, counsellors and psychotherapists and those involved in similar work. Contemporary research consistently points to the relationship between therapist and service user as a critical dynamic in recovery. This workshop will focus on the therapeutic relationship and how it is far from being a passive alliance but can in fact be viewed as an intervention in itself; contrasting with the concept of a working alliance, the workshop will focus on relational dynamics such as transference/countertransference, the presence of psychological defences, coping with resistances and the presenting past between therapist and client; therapeutic issues such as boundaries, disclosures, trust and maintaining the frame will also be explored; it is envisaged that participants will gain insight into the subtle but critical and rich forms of unconscious communication that takes place within the therapeutic relationship.
Presenter: Kevin Fehin. Kevin is a Senior Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist. He is currently employed in the Adult Mental Health Service with the HSE. Among other qualifications he holds a Masters in Psychoanalytic Studies.
