Hide-Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is an evidenced-based psychotherapy approach that was first developed by Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg. It is a short-term, future-focused and goal-directed therapeutic approach which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than dwelling on problems that brought clients to therapy. Elements of the desired solution are often already present in the client’s life and become the basis for ongoing change.
This workshop will explore the ideas and techniques of the Solution Focused Model and offer some innovative ideas to enhance our creativity and hopefulness in our therapeutic work. Participants will also have opportunities to practice the skills associated with the model.
Presenter: Katie O Malley. Katie is a Registered Systemic Family Therapist who has a broad range of experience of working with individuals, couples, children and families in the fields of social care and family therapy. She uses Solution Focused Brief Therapy as a regular part of her ongoing work. She has worked extensively in both Ireland and New Zealand and is a member of the Family Centre Counselling team for a number of years.
