People who are in receipt of an old age pension or in receipt of a social welfare payment are entitled to a concession. To obtain this concession the college will need a photocopy of documentation to show what payment you are on. This must be presented on registration along with your pps number. Hide-In this class the student will develop a body of work which is both personal and contextualised within Contemporary Art practice. They will employ traditional and experimental painting processes and techniques, observe, record and analyse a variety of subjects.
The student will assess the impact of a range of Contemporary Art practice on their personal work. They will keep a journal that explores diverse Contemporary Art practice and from these explorations, the student will develop a personal practice that shows influence from the artists studied.
A sketchbook will be used to explore practical processes, acrylic, watercolour, household paints, etc., and techniques and the student will prepare a variety of surfaces for paint, to include; stretching and priming canvas, watercolour paper and gesso.

Hide-The student will produce a cohesive, conclusive body of work to exhibition standard, underpinned by appropriate research practice and be able to use the language of art criticism and evaluate a comprehensive range of approaches to painting as an expressive and communicative language, through the analysis of a range of art movements.
The student will have a body of work that can be used as a portfolio for college application by course end. The format of the class will be practical, working from observation, still life and life drawing from the model and will also contain History of Art / Art Appreciation lectures to facilitate the student to locate their own paintings/ others work in theoretical context using correct terminology. Acrylic paint, charcoal and ink and paper are supplied by the college.
