Hide-Applicants must be at least 18 years of age by 1st January of the year of application, hold a Leaving Certificate/FETAC level 5 qualification (or equivalent); be able to demonstrate involvement in the community development sector verifiable by an up to date reference. Applicants not meeting the criteria may submit a 500 word personal statement outlining suitability for the course and may be called for interview. Diploma programmes are offered subject to a minimum number of eligible applicants registering for the programme. Following completion of year 1 of this programme, should a sufficient number of eligible students not wish to progress form year 1 to year 2 of this programme as to make the year 2 viable, students will graduate with a certificate at that point. Programme viability is determined by reference to fee income and applicable costs in running the programme.

This Certificate/Diploma in Leadership in the Community is designed to meet the educational and professional skills needs of those who are tasked with the responsibility of providing effective leadership within our communities. It introduces the student to the concepts and processes of community developments which compliment and develop effective leadership skills that reflect current best practice and are appropriate to working in and with the community and voluntary sector.
The Diploma programme is delivered on a part-time basis over a two year period. The programme is modularised with attendant continuous assessment comprising of project work, presentations, reflections, practical assignments, essays and community based practice placement. There are no examinations on this programme.
Course Practicalities
Candidates who successfully complete First Year may opt not to proceed to Second Year and may exit the programme with a Certificate in Leadership in the Community. Students who complete the first year and decide to opt out of the Second Year, mid cycle, may also exit with a Certificate of Leadership in the Community.
