This is a 4 year course, with Exit Awards available as follows:

»» After 3 years - Bachelor of Arts in Social Care (Level 7, 180 credits).
»» After 4 years - Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Social Care (Level 8, 240 credits). |

entry requirements outlined at either A, B or C below:
A. Standard Entry
Standard minimum entry requirement is six passes in the Leaving Certificate (including Mathematics and either Irish or English), with at least Grade C3 in two higher level subjects, together with at least Grade D3 in four ordinary level subjects, plus a minimum of 300 points.
OR
Applicants should hold a Level 5 and/or Level 6 full FETAC (QQI)award in Social Care / Social Studies or equivalent with a minimum of 3 Distinctions.
B. Mature Applicants
Mature applicants are those over 23 years of age with assessment of their suitability for the programme being based on an evaluation of all aspects of the applicants preparedness. This is assessed via portfolio which should include the applicants:
Education record to date copies of all certified learning
Employment history an up to date curriculum vitae
Relevant skills gained to date
Names, addresses and contact details for two referees
Any other relevant information to demonstrate the learning, skills and competences achieved to date.

The programme is intended for those individuals currently working in the area of Social Care who would like to gain a recognised academic qualification. Successful completion of this programme will assist in facilitating practitioners to register with CORU as a practising Social Care professional once registration becomes a necessity. Social Care is a broad area which covers working in an active and caring capacity within some of the following areas:
Aging
Disability
Residential Care
Mental Health
Addiction
Homelessness
Positive action for Minority Groups
Course Description
On successful completion of this course, graduates will be qualified to work in a wide range of Social Care settings, including working with children, in family support, community development, care of the elderly and with people with special needs. You will explore and analyse the development of current and future trends in social care in Ireland and how legislation in this area is drafted and regulated. As well as learning about different models of social care and their appropriateness to different situations, you will also learn how to deliver a social care service, both alone and as part of a team, to people in community, daycare and residential settings.

There are two work placements, each one twelve weeks in duration comprising of twenty-five hours work experience plus five hours study per week. If working in Social Care practice the first placement may be in your own place of employment but the second placement MUST be in a DIFFERENT SITE. *
