The programme is a 1 year part-time programme. It is envisaged that elements of the programme will be offered through blended learning. |
| Entry Requirements |
Applicants will be required to hold at least a FETAC level 5 qualification (8 modules) in Care of the Older Person (or equivalent). Garda vetting will be required.
In exceptional circumstances, consideration will be given to candidates who demonstrate significant prior experience and learning (RPL). Applicants who apply through this route (RPL) will be required to attend for interview and may be required to undertake a short written test before admission. |

The Certificate in Education and Wellbeing of the Older Person is a new programme offered by Mary Immaculate College. Recognising that for many the period after retirement can now span two decades; a time to continue personal development, education and learning. This programme aims to address the largely unmet wellbeing and educational needs of older persons across different settings.
The Level 6 programme offers students the opportunity to develop knowledge and skill in working with older people to promote learning and wellbeing. The programme will focus on the holistic education and wellbeing needs of older persons.
Who should apply?
The Certificate in Education and Wellbeing of the Older Person (Level 6) is open to individuals who work with, or wish to work with or on behalf of older persons from an educational and wellbeing perspective. It is anticipated that applicants w would be recruited from a variety of backgrounds including informal carers, formal care workers, health and social care practitioners and individuals working in the formal and adult education sector

The participants must have access to an older person context where they can implement what is learned during the programme and reflect upon practice. If applicants are not already working within an older persons sector, it is their responsibility to source a placement for the programme.
