Candidates must be at least 18 years old and meet the following criteria:

•4 GCSEs (preferably including minimum Grade C in Maths and English or equivalent) and 160 UCAS Points.

Admissions criteria may be enhanced by the College if this course is oversubscribed.

OR

•Provide evidence of ability to undertake the course through the accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL). APEL is a process by which you may be awarded credits for learning that you have gained in the past, and which is relevant to the course to which you have applied. It may also help you gain entry to a programme if you do not have the required entry qualifications. This may be certificated or experiential learning.

Applicants not meeting the criteria may be considered subject to interview.

If you do not have English and Maths GCSE Grade C or above, you will be expected to achieve this during your studies.

This course will provide you with skills in programming, networking, e-business and computing in business.

Typically, weekly contact hours are scheduled for 17.5 hours per week. There are normally two assignments issued per module, with eight modules taken per year. Completion of Year 1 modules qualifies you for the BTEC Level 4 HNC Diploma. Formative and summative feedback is issued on an individual basis to students for each assignment issued. All Merit and Distinction Grades are available to be achieved in both the first and second unit assignments. Exams are not currently used within the 70110 HND Computing and Systems Development Course.

The teaching team consists of staff who are highly qualified with valuable industrial experience. Our staff are regularly trained to keep up-to-date with the changing needs of industry.

This course is designed to prepare students for a career in the ICT industry or progression to related degree programmes, normally at second year of entry.

This course can lead directly to a career as a Network Technician, Computer Technician, Information Officer, User Support and MIS assistant. Alternatively, further study at a higher level will lead to jobs such as Software Engineer, Software Tester, Web Developer, Data Analyst or Management positions in the IT industry.

How Will The Course Make Me More Employable?
This course will provide you with the skills to gain employment in the ICT industry or progression to related degree programmes. The course includes programming using MS Visual Studio.Net (C#), MS SQL Server and Java. The Industrial Qualification training and Networking Skills included in this course makes it unique in offering the widest possible job opportunities.

Students will also have the opportunity of placement in a local company, as well as the opportunity to study in the USA for a year.
