Course Overview
This new course is the latest addition to the UCD Diagnostic Imaging professional training portfolio. It has been designed specifically for radiographers, and delivers a combination of teaching and learning methods to suit full-time professional practitioners.
The Graduate Certificate programme is designed for radiographers* who wish to provide high quality healthcare by deepening and extending their knowledge and expertise in the field of paediatric imaging. Applicants should normally possess at least one year post-qualification experience. Additionally students must have access to paediatric patients during their normal working environment for the duration of the course.
*The “Child Protection” module will be open to all suitably qualified healthcare professionals and is not exclusive to radiographers.
This 30 credit programme leads to a certificate in Paediatric Radiography. The course aims to equip health care professionals with the relevant skills and knowledge that will enable them to understand the varied indications in Paediatric Radiography and associated interventions, as well as developing specialised knowledge and understanding of the child protection system and their role within it.
This course has been designed to provide both theoretical and practical training with a significant emphasis on clinical experience. Participants will be required to gain the majority of their clinical experience in their own hospital, which will allow them to negotiate the most suitable arrangements within each individual workplace.
How/Where Do I Learn?
The Course is divided up into three modules; one 15 credit module in Paediatric Imaging, one 10 credit module in Child Protection within the Clinical Environment and one 5 credit module in Non-Accidental Injury.
Throughout these modules students will profit from a blended learning approach integrating class discussions, lecture attendance, student presentations, image appraisal tutorials, practical tasks, e-Learning activities together with self-directed learning. The teaching and learning strategies are designed to encourage autonomous reflective practitioners who can further develop their personal and professional skills within a supportive framework.
