Hide-What is the programme about?
This one-year add-on programme aims to meet the requirement for highly skilled scientists who satisfy the demand for a qualification at the highest level in the key area of Environmental and Analytical Science.
The programme is heavily geared towards independent learning in which students work under their own initiative in multidisciplinary project work set out over three modules. These modules are 100% lab/field based and are a blend of individual and team work activities. Project management, advanced trouble shooting and analytical skills developed are highly desirable to the industrial sector. The programme is also reinforced with industrially relevant modules in Advanced Analytical Techniques; Good Manufacturing Practice; Quality Control and Legislation.
Who is the programme suited to?
This programme is ideal for students who possess a level 7 award in an Applied Science discipline with an interest in developing their analytical skills specifically for the Science industrial sector.

Hide-What can I do after the programme?
Significantly the environmental sectors of the pharmaceutical, chemical, food or biotechnology industries all require environmental analysts. Also, because of the transferrable skills developed in the progress of your degree, graduates may also work directly in these industries as an analyst in the main analytical laboratories. Coupled with this are opportunities in the local authorities (County and City Councils) and other regulatory bodies such as the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Agriculture. Independent analytical companies, who carry out environmental monitoring and ecological assessment, also have a continuous requirement for Environmental Science graduates.
This level 8 programme is recognised both nationally and internationally and many past graduates have continued in their studies to Masters and PhD awards within LIT and beyond.
