Hide-Learn an amazing craft and explore your creativity through the skills and techniques of fine furniture making. Workshop based learning develops competence with hand tools, power tools and woodworking machinery. Life drawing, technical graphics and computer aided design classes support the design process.
The course teaches a range of woodworking methods, starting with traditional joinery and progressing to high tech production in our well- equipped workshops and studios.
Experience and learn this fascinating discipline while designing and making your own furniture pieces.

Grants are means tested and if eligible the amount of the grant is dependent on the distance students travel from their place of residence to the college.
It is advisable for students to apply as early as possible for maintenance grants.

Hide-Applications are invited any time up to the end of August. However, it is advisable to apply before mid-August to ensure places are still available on the course. All applicants' suitability is assessed on the merit of their application forms and by the means of a ten to fifteen minute interview. Interviews will take place in May and September depending on when you apply. All late applicants should check with the College Main Office as quite frequently, we have places still available on some courses in September. Applications can be made using our online application form (see above).

Furniture Making 5N1275
This subject equips the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to working independently and under supervision in a furniture workshop, to effectively utilise a range of workshop resources and to safely produce items of furniture.
Design Skills 5N0784
This subject introduces the design process and teaches students how to generate creative responses to design briefs.
Drawing 5N1862
The subject covers the drawing process and techniques to communicate, interpret and describe solutions to problems, in a variety of ways. It is intended to compliment the design skills module.
Computer Aided Draughting 5N1604
This subject covers computer technology as a design tool, a presentation media and a means of producing working drawings. 2D AutoCAD is the main focus.
Safety and Health at Work 5N1794
This subject promotes and maintains safety and health in a work environment, with particular reference to furniture workshop and wood finishing activities.
Communications 5N0690
This subject teaches the learner to communicate verbally and nonverbally, using traditional and modern media.
Work Experience 5N1356
Students spend time in a related work environment gaining knowledge, skills and practical experience as part of their development.

Leaving Certificate or equivalent. All applicants are interviewed and places are awarded on suitability. Mature students without formal qualifications are most welcome to apply. |
