Hide-This course provides students with a broad range of skills in carpentry and joinery. The course includes first and second fixing, temporary work including formwork, shuttering work and shoring, installing built-in furniture/ kitchens and constructing timber frame housing.
All aspects of building construction, services and general building techniques incorporating all current building regulations are explored throughout the course. Learn how to design a house, how to apply for planning permission, draw up plans and do up a bill of quantities for an Eco friendly family home and set out a work schedule.
Students learn how to work as part of the build team, understanding roles and responsibilities with a large emphasis on Health and Safety.
This course is a path to explore the different educational and employment areas in the construction sector.

All applicants' suitability is assessed on the merit of their application forms and by the means of a ten to fifteen minute interview. Interviews will take place in May and September depending on when you apply. All late applicants should check with the College Main Office as quite frequently, we have places still available on some courses in September. • Building Construction 5N1570
This subject is designed to equip the learner with the practical knowledge of the construction principles for the envelope of a standard modern two-storey domestic dwelling. It introduces the learner to a range of construction techniques, materials and quantities.
•Renewable Energy Systems 5N4975
This subject provides an overview of renewable energy technologies and covers topics such as energy and services requirements, site suitability, micro-hydro systems, biomass, solar thermal systems, building design features, photovoltaic, domestic wind turbines and battery storage. It combines both theory and its applications to real situations.
•Safety & Health at Work 5N1794
This subject promotes and maintains safety and health in a work environment, with particular reference to furniture workshop and wood finishing activities.
•Wood Fabrication 5N1999
This subject is designed to provide the learner with the skills and knowledge necessary to use wood in the construction of a modern two-storey domestic dwelling and form work techniques.
Computer Aided Draughting 5N1604
This subject covers computer technology as a design tool, a presentation media and a means of producing working drawings. 2D AutoCAD is the main focus.
