Hide-This course provides the student with the knowledge, skills and practical application to work within the sports and leisure industry and/or to provide a pathway to higher education. Exercise and Fitness is very important for the student who wishes to pursue a career in gym instruction with the NCEF in the future. The course has been devised with an emphasis on students following the progression opportunities into higher education (see education progression opportunities below). The successful student will leave with their QQI Level 5 award as well as several other certificates for training modules, selected in association with the Irish Rugby Football Union, Irish Sports Council the Football Association of Ireland and Cork Sports Partnership.

Highlights
The Course will give the student a wide skill-set that is both practical and theoretical. All sports students will have access to our new gym, which is fully equipped with Technogym CV machines, machine weights and free weights. Also, a full size 3G Astroturf pitch and several playing pitches are used on the course, while remaining practicals will take place in our full-size sports hall.
The course also gives students the opportunity to hear a number of guest lecturers throughout the year including professional athletes in soccer, rugby, athletics, rowing, inter-county GAA coaches and players along with experts from the Irish Sports Council's high performance unit. The Work Experience unit will create valuable contacts for the students and may create opportunity for future employment.

All applicants' suitability is assessed on the merit of their application forms and by the means of a ten to fifteen minute interview. Interviews will take place in May and September depending on when you apply. All late applicants should check with the College Main Office as quite frequently, we have places still available on some courses in September. The purpose of this unit is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in the nutritional composition of food and the effects of food and nutrition on an individuals health and personal well-being.

This unit provides the student with practical experience in a work environment. This will be based specifically in the areas of assisting in performance analysis, strength & conditioning / gyms and dietary analysis. The students will be working in cooperation with school teams / local clubs and fitness facilities in a sport/area of their preference.
Rugby - Leprechaun Rugby is a fast and exciting modified-contact game of 'touch' rugby designed to assist general physical development, to play an important role in 'games concepts' programs and to introduce the game of Rugby Union to children in a very simplified form and is the formal introductory game to Mini Rugby. The aim is to prepare students, teachers & coaches to introduce the game & develop the fundamental skills of Leprechaun rugby.
Performance Training
Topics and workshops will cover areas such as functional testing, developing speed, sports specific programming, fitness profiling, performance analysis, periodization training, and tabata training.
Code of Ethics & Good Practice for Children's Sport delivered by the Irish Sports Council and Cork Sports Partnership.
Soccer Kickstart 1 & 2 - This course will give students the skills to coach 612 year olds in the game of soccer.

This is designed to provide beginner strength and conditioning coaches with a basic knowledge and understanding and a foundation of practical skills.

Leaving Certificate, L.C.A. or equivalent. All participants are interviewed and places are awarded on suitability. Biology or performing in sport at an elite/inter-county/semi-professional/academy or national level would be an advantage. |
