• Access to this module is limited to those holding the Graduate Diploma EMS or Higher Diploma EMS.
• Candidates will complete a primary research project in a subject area related to the practice of pre-hospital emergency care. A research proposal must be submitted and approved before acceptance to the module.
• External and internal assessors will report on the completed dissertation. |

- Students will be supervised in the design and completion of a piece of original research in the area of pre-hospital care.
Who Should Take This Course?
Access to this course is confined to graduates of either the UCD Graduate Diploma in Emergency Medical Science or Higher Diploma in EMT.
What Will I Learn?
Candidates registered for the Graduate Diploma in Emergency Medical Science may choose to apply for completion of a Masters (MSc) in Emergency Medical Sicence over two additional semesters. Candidates will complete a minor thesis by primary research in a relevant area of pre-hospital emergency care to acquire a further 30 ECTS credits.
Candidates will demonstrate:
• Familiarity with study design, selection of appropriate methodologies and samples and power calculations
• Ability to prepare a research proposal and ethics/funding applications as required
• Data collection, collation, analysis and interpretation skills
• Ability to prepare and present a completed thesis, including an appropriate literature search and critique of the completed research.
