English language entry requirements
You must have achieved an IELTS score of at least 5.0, with 5.0 in writing.

The English Language Preparation course
If you haven’t quite managed to reach an IELTS score of 5.0 you can take an English Language Preparation (ELP) course. You need a minimum IELTS score of 4.0 to study the ELP. You'll need to study at least one term to improve your language skills and meet the entry requirements. Courses start in July or September. If you achieve the required module grades in the ELP you'll be able to start your pathway programme.
Country of residence/nationality
You must be what is defined as an ‘overseas student’ to enrol on a pathway programme. We cannot accept applications from Irish and EU nationals. If you have a European passport, please read the pages for EU applicants on the UCD website.

Academic English Skills aims to provide you with thorough training in the language and related academic skills which will enable you to best achieve your academic potential at University. These skills include the processes of academic writing, effective and extensive reading strategies, effective participation in seminars and delivery of presentations, and listening to and recording information effectively from lectures. You will also develop the accuracy and range of written and spoken language required to use language effectively and appropriately, with clarity and confidence in an academic context.
