The Accounting Technician qualification is an excellent entry route into a whole range of careers in accounting and finance. It involves two years study and two years work based training. The Certificate for Accounting Technician is awarded following successful completion of the first year and on successfully completing the second year along with two years work experience you are awarded the Diploma in Accounting Technician.
Why should I do it?
Qualified Accounting Technicians have fantastic job prospects. Every company needs accounts staff! It's internationally recognised so there are travel opportunities and excellent options for further study when you finish. You can go into the final year of business or accountancy degree programmes in several colleges in Ireland and the UK. You can also go on to study with one of the other accountancy bodies such as chartered Accountants Ireland, ACC, MA or CPA. Once you're qualified the sky is the limit! Our members work in a huge range of industries and jobs, in locations around the world.

There are two types of fees that you'll pay when you register as a student.
Professional fees €740 - this covers your textbooks, exams, registration and online learning supports.
PLC charge of €200 - paid to DES (There are some exemptions)

Business Management
On successful completion of these subjects you will be awarded the Certificate for Accounting Technicians.
In Second Year you will study:
Advanced Financial Accounting
Advanced Taxation
Management Accounting
Integrated Accounting Systems (IAS)
The IAS subject is a computerised accounting subject and teaches practical skills that are very valuable when you are looking for your first job in accountancy. On successful completion of your second year subjects and two years work experience you will be awarded the Diploma for Accounting Technicians.

To gain entry you just need one of the following:
Leaving Certificate with 5 Ordinary Level passes including English and Maths / Accountancy
Mature learners who have reached 21 years of age but do not possess the minimum educational requirements may still apply to do the course based on age and experience. |

Many who qualify as Accounting Technicians choose to continue their studies and use their MIATI qualification as a stepping stone into other accountancy and business related areas. There are a wide range of generous Higher Level Education exemptions available on successful completion of Second Year of our qualification. Around 30% of graduates continue their studies with other professional accounting and taxation bodies, or on degree programmes.
