FET Code 5M2009 - Early Childhood Care & Education
Duration One year full-time course, September to mid- May. Classes are timetabled between 9:00 am and 1:15 pm Monday to Thursday. Work experience takes place on Friday.
Comment Certification
Level 5 Childcare 5M2009. Certificate in Occupational First Aid.
Course Fee In line with the Department of Education and Skills guidelines, there are no tuition fees.

However, the following are payable:
€20 non-refundable administration fee with your application form.
€100 registration fee on commencement of a course.
€200 contribution to the Department of Education and Skills - see exemptions under Finance.
€50 QQI exam fees payable in January - Medical Card Exemption.
Some modules will require the purchase of a text book or material.

Interview Interviews will be held in May 2017 and places will be offered at that stage. Interviews will also be held in late August to fill any remaining places. Therefore early application is advisable.

(iii) copy of most recent exam results/school report where appropriate.

Work Experience
The work experience requirement for this programme is a minimum of 120 hours/16 days.
Mature Entry Places Yes
Entry Requirements Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate applied or equivalent. Mature students with some experience of working with small children in nurseries, voluntary organisations and family homes are welcome to apply. The learner must be Garda Vetted to participate fully on this programme.
Assessment Method Assessment
Continuous assessment takes place on all PLC courses. Work produced throughout the year such as projects and assignments will be graded and will contribute towards final assessment.
Careers or Further Progression Career Opportunities
This qualification will enable students to work in a variety of childcare settings including preschools, creches, nurseries and as classroom assistants/special needs.

Progression / Further Education
