- Leaving Certificate standard or equivalent. However, applications will also be considered from people without these qualifications.
- Students are required to complete 50 hours of Work Experience PER TERM, which they must arrange themselves. Ideally, Work Experience should be done one day per week and must run for the full duration of the course (October / April).
- Students must undergo Garda Vetting either through the College or directly through their work experience placement. Alternatively already have acquired Garda Vetting through their current place of related employment.
Applicants will be invited to attend an Induction Meeting with the course tutor prior to enrolment. This meeting will take place on Monday 11th or Tuesday 12th between 6.00p.m. and 8.00p.m.

This course is designed for learners who wish to work as Special Needs Assistants (SNA) in schools and also in other care settings in the community. Learners will achieve FOUR QQI Level 5 Minor Awards on completion of Year 1. Learners have the option to obtain a full Community Care (5M2786) QQI Level 5 Major Award on completion of a second year.
Certification:
QQI Level 5 Community Care (5M2786) Component Certification on successful completion of Year 1. Full QQI Level 5 Community Care (5M2786) Major Award on successful completion of Year 2. Students should be aware that year 2 will be offered subject to sufficient enrolments.
