Hide-About Environmental Management
There is an ever increasing onus on all types of organisations to manage environmental issues and factor environmental requirements into their decision making processes. This arises from a number of drivers in areas such as legislative compliance, commercial development, technical operations and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Moreover, there is now an increasing necessity to factor environmental criteria into the early stages of Project Development. This honours degree in Environmental Management is specifically designed for people who need to take an active role in Project Management or Project Development with a particular focus on the environmental requirements. It is also suitable for those who require involvement in the environmental management affairs of an organisation or who wish to develop their knowledge, skills and competence base in the science of environmental management.
About the Programme
The programme will be mainly delivered using the internet (using the MOODLE online teaching application) and students will be instructed in this method at the start of the programme. Online lectures, programme materials, innovative learning, web-links and assessments will be delivered using this platform. There will also be up to two workshops per semester, where the students will undertake teamwork, lectures and/or site visits to facilities or organisations which are relevant from an environmental management perspective.
This is an accredited course with the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM), the largest professional body for chartered environmental scientists. All students on this course are eligible to become student members of this professional body.

Hide-Employment prospects may exist in both the public and private sectors in projects of all types and sizes. This is particularly the case where project success factors, or contract/tender award criteria, relating to the environment need to be satisfied or where an organisation seeks a qualified professional to take on the role of environmental manager. You will also be better informed to work in a project management/development capacity or environmental management role in your own workplace. Finally, you can apply for a distance learning Level 9 Post Graduate Diploma in Environmental Protection at IT Sligo.
