However we advise you to apply as early as possible, particularly for those courses where there is a high demand for places. Early application is also important for international applicants to allow sufficient time to obtain a student entry visa.

Postgraduate Research

There is no standard closing date. You should however check both the University’s website and refer to the relevant School/Institute webpage for information on deadline dates for postgraduate funding applications, as these will also determine when your application for admission should be submitted.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING (RPEL)
Admission to the programme(s) under Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) is permissible in the following circumstances:
•A lower level of performance in an Honours degree, in combination with suitable experience
•Applications will be considered on the basis of experiential learning in combination with a sub-Honours degree level qualification

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
International students wishing to apply to Queen's University Belfast (and for whom English is not their first language), must be able to demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to benefit fully from their course of study or research. Non-EEA nationals must also satisfy UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) immigration requirements for English language for visa purposes.

Evidence of an IELTS* score of 6.0, with not less than 5.5 in any component, or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the University is required.

The MSc in Advanced Food Safety is tailored towards students who aim to, or currently work within the agri-food industry and related sectors, offering a unique qualification in the fields of food safety and security.

The Institute for Global Food Security (IGFS), is one of the University’s four Global Research Institutes, which is leading the world in addressing one of the greatest challenges – how to ensure the safety of our food.

The world’s food supply is reducing. Its production is under increasing pressure, and so safety issues are more likely to arise.

The programme focus will be on new and emerging issues within the field, concentrating on developments in analytical approaches to monitor and regulate food safety, authenticity and security.

Why Queen's?
You’ll study at a university that was at the forefront of uncovering and understanding the horsemeat scandal.

When horsemeat was discovered in beef products in 2013, Professor Chris Elliott was the scientific expert that the government and media turned to for analysis and action.

Purpose-built teaching and research facilities are being built for the Institute of Global Food Security, within the new £39 million Biological Sciences building due to open in 2018.
