| Entry Requirements |
Applicants need to present a primary degree in one or more languages, with an overall award of at least Second Class Honours, Grade 1. They also need to present two references from academic referees willing to comment on their intellectual ability, maturity and motivation.
Applicants whose first language is not English must also demonstrate English language proficiency of IELTS 7.0 (with no band less than 6.5 in each element), or equivalent.

The MA in Modern Languages will interest students who have completed language, literature and culture studies at undergraduate level, and who would now like to pursue these studies in one or more languages (French, German, Italian, Spanish) at an advanced level of proficiency and with comparative possibilities.

The MA Modern Languages reflects the current need to provide high-quality education in the area of modern foreign languages, with a significant global reach. It will develop the communicative and analytical skills of its students through specialist study within and across the subject areas of French, German, Italian and Spanish, their cultures and languages. Students can specialise in one or two languages and draw on a range of supporting theoretical approaches.

Hide-The programme aims to combine choice with coherence, flexibility with focus, depth with the opportunity to broaden one's cultural horizons. Students choose a core theoretical module (Cultural Theory, Literary Theory or Translation Studies) alongside five other modules, defining an area or areas of specialisation from a broad range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary modules.
Students also write an MA Thesis on a subject area they have defined in close consultation with a supervisor. The subject can include comparative research across two language areas.
