Hide-The Graduate Diploma/Masters programme is designed for practising teachers in Primary Schools. Candidates will normally be expected to meet requirements (A) and (B).
(A) Honours/Pass Bachelor of Education degree
or Honours primary degree and a Pass/Honours Higher Diploma in Education or equivalent
or Pass primary degree and Honours Higher Diploma in Education or equivalent
or Primary Teaching Diploma (prior to 1975)
(B) Normally two years of teaching experience or equivalent professional experience e.g. research/development work in education.
Candidates with qualifications other than those specified above and/or who have experience in educational research, relevant professional experience or a proven interest in the use of technology in education, may also be considered for admission.

Hide-There is now universal recognition that teachers’ professional learning needs to be supported throughout the professional lifespan. In its policy on the continuum of teacher education, the Teaching Council emphasises the importance of school-based enquiry by teachers, both individually and collaboratively with others as part of professional learning communities (Teaching Council, 2011).
The Graduate Certificate/Diploma/MEd in Professional Studies in Education has been designed to support teachers in this type of professional learning. The opportunity for school-based research and the elective modules allows for specialisisation in particular areas.
The MEd takes place in Year 3 and involve a substantial research project on some aspect of teachers’ professional learning.
