The application process contains two sections. The first is the completion of the online application form. The second section is the downloading, completion and return of the 'Site Declaration' form. You will find the links to both stages below.
Please be aware, failure to complete both sections and failure to submit a copy of your current NMBI registration card will result in an incomplete aplication form and you will not be considered for the programme.

Are registered on one of the divisions of the NMBI register
Have a minimum 3 years post registration experience within last 5 years with 1 year in the clinical area in which the applicant proposes to prescribe
Possesses competencies at level 8 of the NFQ
Can demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development
Possesses a competent level of information technology literacy
Is currently employed as a nurse or midwife in the voluntary and statutory services of the Health Service Executive or a private organisation
Has the support from employer to undertake the programme
Has the nomination and confirmation of a designated medical practitioner mentor

Our programme is the first of its type in Ireland, we have educated over 700 prescribers since 2007. The Certificate in Nursing (Nurse Midwife Prescribing) prepares nurses and midwives from an education perspective to prescribe medicines within their scope of practice. It is offered to all nurses and midwives who meet the entry criteria and have the support of their employer and a designated medical mentor irrespective of their clinical grade or area of clinical practice.
The programme is offered part time over six months and includes both theoretical and clinical instruction. The Certificate in Nurse/Midwife Prescribing offers appropriately qualified nurses and midwives the opportunity to enhance the care they provide to patients, clients and service users through the use of their prescriptive authority. Many nurses and midwives having undertaken this programme continue their post graduate education to postgraduate diploma and masters level, preparing them for specialist or advanced practice roles.
Learning Outcomes/Aims:
On successful completion of this programme the student will:
Have a critical understanding of the necessary professional knowledge base (theory, concepts and methods) pertaining to the role of Registered Nurse Prescriber
Demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills required to be a competent Registered Nurse Prescriber.
Have detailed specialised knowledge and understanding necessary to be a competent Registered Nurse Prescriber.
Demonstrate the practical and critical thinking skills required to exercise appropriate judgement in decision making around the prescribing of medications.
Critically appraise the role of the nurse with prescriptive authority within the context of relevant legislation, professional guidance and clinical governance structures.
Lead patient care within the context of collaborative working
Critically analyse own learning needs through the use of reflective practice to facilitate a lifelong learning approach to personal and professional development.
Have indepth insight into own learning, professional knowledge and requirements for professional competence
