QQI/FETAC awards create opportunities for progression to higher education and training. The Higher Education Links Scheme links QQI/ FETAC awards to reserved places on Higher Education Courses and at present there are 30 Institutes of Technology, Universities (subject to specific requirements) and private colleges offering places on a variety of courses.
At the moment the minimum entry requirement to Higher Certification Course (Level 6) or Ordinary Degree (Level 7) is any QQI/ FETAC Level 5 Awards. To qualify for entry to these courses, students need to study specific modules relating to the course of their choice. The minimum standard at entry level are eight distinctions equivalent to 400 points.
Links to Higher Education:
Students who achieve the required standard in QQI/FETAC Level 5 may progress to Higher Certificate (Level 6) and Ordinary Degree (Level 7) courses in Institutes of Technology. Entry is based solely on QQI/FETAC results and Leaving Cert points do not apply. Many of our students go on to Third Level Education through this Childcare course. Furthermore students with appropriate QQI/FETAC awards and with 8 distinctions may be admitted on a competitive basis to certain Degree courses in the Universities. The best 8 modules are used for this purpose. Some courses may require certain modules. These are listed in the individual Institute prospectus. Application is made through the CAO in the usual manner.
Students may progress to further studies in institutions both in Ireland and the U.K. Check the QQI/FETAC Link and the CAO link on the links page for further details.
