Hide-What is the MSc in Business, Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship?
The MSc in Business, Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship is aimed at non business graduates in the areas of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). The course was designed to help non-business graduates develop skills and knowledge in entrepreneurship and innovation, marketing, strategy, project management, finance, data analytics and management. Developed in collaboration with companies in the south east region including the TSSG group, FeedHenry and Glanbia, it aims to produce high quality graduates with entrepreneurship, innovation and cross-enterprise skills.
The aim of the mBITE programme is to help science, technology, engineering, maths (STEM) graduates to broaden their skills and knowledge base making their core skills more transferable and useable; whilst building new skills in sales and marketing, business innovation, product development and management.
The delivery of the programme incorporates lectures, workshops by leading entrepreneurs, a dedicated seminar programme on topics relating to entrepreneurship and innovation and visits to entrepreneurial start-up companies in the region. In addition, practical training is also provided in key skills areas such as ICT/analytics, marketing, finance and management. The students also undertake workshops on job readiness, business simulation and applied projects in business consulting and project management.
The programme draws graduates mainly from STEM areas and allows them to leverage their undergraduate specialism into the area of enterprise development and management. In this way the programme allows participants the opportunity to reframe their career, positioning them to develop new business ventures.

Hide-Career Opportunities
Students work on integrated projects throughout the year with commercial companies and start-up entrepreneurs in our business incubation centre (ArcLABS). ArcLABS is a unique Innovation Centre in WIT where there is a growing community of early stage companies and a base of over 190 highly skilled business and technology professionals. For example, three modules from the programme have practical in-company projects, where a commercial company is a client for consulting work. Also, the Technology Commercialisation module is delivered in partnership with companies based in ArcLABS where students work to support entrepreneurs in shaping the early stages of their HPSU business.
The programme also equips graduates for entrepreneurial careers, by encouraging creativity and innovation as well as delivering the skills required to commercialise ideas. Entrepreneurial skills as part of a start-up or an existing business are greatly in demand. With the addition of the green technology stream, the programme allows some students to tailor their learning so they have a firm grasp of the commercial responses and opportunities to the key environmental sustainability challenges. These graduates are well positioned for the emerging ‘green collar’ roles in renewable energies, waste management, environmental consultancy, and ‘Green’ ICT green sectors.
Of the most recent springboard group in 2013, the majority are in employment and we have developed a number of self-employment pathways from the programme (Fumbally Hub, Waterford, the Technovate programme, New Frontiers programme) all of which help our graduates to move into a mentored business start-up.
Student Testimonial
“As a student on the Business, Innovation, Technology, & Entrepreneurship (mBITE) course at Waterford Institute of Technology, I have enjoyed a robust and well-rounded educational experience. Although it is a one-year course, the intense workload that comes with it provides students the ability to cover a number of subjects in depth. The modules included provided me with a comprehensive understanding of a variety of themes relevant to the business world today. The Business School in general provides a unique mix of traditional lectures based around theory and of experiential modules formatted to expand practical knowledge provide students like myself with a balanced and enriching educational experience”.
Katie Fox, Wildcat Basketball Player
"It was a year well spent. Personally and professionally I have never been happier. Without a doubt the MSc set me apart from other applicants".
